Introduction

After your prospect opt-ins on your landing page, the next page in your funnel is your thank you page.

This is probably the most overlooked page in your funnel, and yet is is one of the most powerful.

Think about it this way.

This is the first communication you have will with your prospect AFTER they have made a commitment to hear what you have to say. That’s huge.  It took a lot to get someone to visit your page.  70% of them go away without taking your offer.

But those 30% (or whatever your opt-in rate happens to be) are different.  They are now important leads for your business and should be treated with the utmost care and respect. Some of them will turn into your clients.

So really think through what you want to communicate on this page.

Elements of a Thank You Page

There are a couple of elements which should be present on your Thank You page in order to put your prospect at ease and prepare them for what comes next:

  1. You should say “Thanks.”  That should be obvious but I repeat it here just in case it isn’t.  Acknowledge this important step someone has taken by genuinely expressing your appreciation.
  2. Details of what comes next.  If they opted in for a report, then give them instructions on where they can access said report.  If you are sending them to a sales video page, give them a little heads up on what is coming next.

Other Important Elements

There are three other optional elements that you can place on your Thank You page, which will increase engagement and the probabilities that your prospect will take further steps with you and your brand.

  1. Quick survey – There are many free applications that allow you to embed a quick survey on your thank you page.  If someone has opted in, they already have the warm fuzzies for you.  Give them a chance to express their opinions and ask for their feedback.  What should you ask?  Whatever you want to know that will improve your service to your prospective clients.
  2. Free gift as a measure of appreciation – This can be a report, PDF, video, chart or other item of value that begins to provide the answer they were seeking when they opted-in.
  3. Video Thank You – This is an extremely effective addition to your Thank You page, which contains a short message from you thanking your prospect, confirming their subscription and building up anticipation for what comes next in the funnel. The effectiveness comes from the personal contact that you make with your prospect where you are no longer an obscure figure but a real and likable person (assuming you are a likable person). 🙂
  4. Provide actual training.  You can provide great content and value right on the thank you page. This can be a video of some kind or a link to a blog post.

Example

Here is a brief example of a very simple thank you page.

What makes it effective is that it contains a personal video, which thanks the person for subscribing, tells them what comes next and even sets up a little excitement about the opportunity.

The other reasons it is effective is because the previous page (the landing page) contains the exact same image so there is congruency in the message.

Note the simplicity.  The main message comes from you speaking from the heart, which will say a lot more than a few written words can convey.

Understand That People Buy From People

Here’s the thing.

People buy from people.  That’s the secret.

That’s why you want to build a list and that’s why a thank you page with a personal video is so effective.  You become a person.  And if you are sincere and genuine, people will be able to pick up on that.

Even if you are nervous, you can speak that right into the camera, and people will love you for it and respond. Everyone loves vulnerability. (Why do you think Oprah made millions with her show?)

Impersonal Leads to Failure

Part of the reason so many people fail in this business is because there is no personal touch in anything that they do.  They slap up a cheesy page they got from Clickbank, drive cold traffic to it, then they expect the money to start flowing in automatically.

I’m sorry, it just doesn’t work that way.

You’ve got to put yourself in your prospect’s shoes.  They are highly, highly skeptical of make money online offers. They have their B.S. radars on high alert and if you so much as smell like one of those scam artists, they will bolt.

The ones that don’t run away are probably those you don’t want to attract anyway because they are just looking for a quick buck.

So everything that you do should communicate some personal warmth, some connection, something that says, hey, you can trust me.  Your thank you page is a great place to try this out.

It’s a difficult task, but you have to try.  And when you succeed, then you are well on your way to success.
